MEREDITH SCHEFFLER: THE WOMAN BEHIND THE WORLD’S BEST GOLFER
Meredith Scheffler is more than just the wife of Scottie Scheffler, the 2022 Masters champion and the current world number one golfer. She is also a successful event planner, a devoted mother, and a supportive partner who has been by Scottie’s side since their high school days. In this article, we will take a closer look at Meredith’s life, career, and relationship with Scottie, and reveal some interesting facts about her.
High School Sweethearts
Meredith and Scottie met as freshmen at Highland Park High School in Dallas, Texas, where they both grew up. They started off as friends, but didn’t begin dating until their senior year. Meredith said she was always impressed by Scottie’s humble and down-to-earth personality, as well as his talent for golf. She recalled the moment she realized how good he was, when she saw him in a commercial for a big golf tournament. “I was at [Meredith’s] house one day, we were hanging out with her dad or something, and the commercial came on TV. And she was kind of looking around. She was like, Wait a minute, isn’t that next weekend? Isn’t that what you’re doing?'” Scottie said in a press conference[^1^].
After graduating from high school, Meredith and Scottie faced the challenge of attending rival colleges. Meredith went to Texas A&M, while Scottie went to the University of Texas. They managed to maintain their relationship for four years, despite the distance and the busy schedules. Meredith studied finance and accounting, and also had a brief internship in Zambia, where she helped with a microfinance project. Scottie played golf for the Texas Longhorns, and won three consecutive Big 12 Championships. He also represented the United States in the 2017 Walker Cup, where he defeated current world number two Jon Rahm.
A Dream Proposal
In June 2020, Scottie proposed to Meredith during a hike at the Arbor Hills Nature Preserve in Texas. He surprised her with a beautiful ring and a heartfelt speech. Meredith said yes, and shared the happy news on Instagram. “YES! I can’t believe God gave me my best friend to spend the rest of my life with, can’t wait to be your wife, Scottie!!!! Blown away at the Lord’s faithfulness and goodness to us. [LET’S] DO THIS!!” she wrote.
A Winter Wedding
Meredith and Scottie tied the knot on December 19, 2020, in a romantic winter wedding at the Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas. The ceremony was attended by their family and friends, including some of Scottie’s fellow golfers, such as Jordan Spieth and Will Zalatoris. Meredith looked stunning in a white lace gown, while Scottie wore a navy suit and a burgundy tie. The couple exchanged vows under a floral arch, and then celebrated with a reception that featured a live band, a photo booth, and a cake cutting. The wedding was planned by Meredith’s own event planning company, With Purpose, which she co-founded and runs as the vice president.
A Supportive Spouse
Meredith has been a constant source of support and encouragement for Scottie, especially during his meteoric rise in the golf world. She often travels with him to his tournaments, and cheers him on from the sidelines. She was there when he won his first PGA Tour title at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in 2022, and when he claimed his maiden major at the Masters later that year. She also caddied for him during the Par 3 Contest at Augusta National, and shared a kiss with him after he made a hole-in-one. She was also by his side when he won the Players Championship in 2023, and when he reached the world number one ranking for the first time.
A Devoted Mother
Meredith and Scottie welcomed their first child, a daughter named Riley, in July 2022. They announced the birth on Instagram, with a picture of the newborn wearing a pink onesie and a matching bow. “Our sweet Riley Grace Scheffler made her debut yesterday and we are over the moon in love with her,” Meredith captioned the post. Since then, Meredith has been balancing her roles as a mother, a wife, and a businesswoman. She often posts adorable photos and videos of Riley on her social media, showing her growing up and learning new things. She also takes Riley with her to some of Scottie’s tournaments, where the little girl gets to watch her daddy play golf.
